Things to do in Sydney
- Explore Sydney's Northern Beaches, they're less crowded than the city beaches and there are some fantastic walks you can do in the surrounding parks and reserves.
- Sydney is a shopper's paradise – make sure you check out some of the numerous markets located all over this vibrant city – Glebe, The Rocks, Bondi Beach, Kirribilli and Paddington.
- Get active with the ionic Coogee to Bondi walk. The fresh salt air will revitalise you as you take in the stunning sights along the sandstone coastal cliffs.
- Famous landmarks are abundant in this beautiful city. Walk or climb over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or cruise beneath it on one of the many choices in harbour cruises. Tour the magnificent Sydney Opera House, wander around lively Darling Harbour, or explore the cobblestone streets in The Rocks. If you're feeling energetic, walk from Bondi to Bronte, one of the most scenic walks in the world.
- Check out some of the great shopping areas of Sydney, the upmarket boutiques in Oxford Street in Paddington, the alternate quirky shops of King Street, Newtown and offcourse the commercial hub of Pitt Street in the CBD.
- Visit the Art Gallery of NSW, or the Museum of Contemporary Art, both in the city.
- Set out on foot to explore the harbour. Start at Circular Quay and walk around the harbour's edge, taking time to explore the Botanic Gardens, perhaps stopping for a picnic. You'll get some great photos of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Climate
Australia enjoys a pleasant climate year round, with the sun shining most of the year, particularly in Sydney, although cooler temperatures can be experiences in winter months. In January average temperatures range from 18-26 degrees Celsius and in July average temperatures range from 8-16 degrees Celsius.
CBD
Sydney's CBD is filled with things to do and see. From Chinatown at the southern end to Circular Quay at the Northern end. Go shopping in Pitt St Mall, visit Centrepoint Tower for unsurpassed views of Sydney. Have a picnic lunch in Hyde Park or the Botanical Gardens. Explore the Art Gallery and of NSW and the Museum of Sydney.
City Beaches
There is no better place to hang out in the summer months than the beaches of Sydney. The city beaches include iconic Bondi, Coogee, Clovelly, Bronte, Tamarama (or 'Glamourama' as it's known to the locals) right down to Maroubra and Cronulla where you will find great surf and plenty of waves. Each beach has its own very unique, distinct personality and there are fantastic pubs, bars, weekend markets, cafes and entertainment.
Eastern suburbs
The exclusive Eastern suburbs hug the coast line of Sydney's beautiful harbour and provide great city escapes and yet are just stones throw from the city. Double Bay has great shopping and cafes. Wastons Bay offers fabulous fish and chips to go with the fabulous view. The Eastern suburbs also include Rushcutters Bay and a multitude of tiny hidden bays and stunning beaches.
Darling Harbour
Darling Harbour as the name suggests really is 'a darling' if its great entertainment you are after. Visit the Imax Theatre, the Aquarium, The Powerhouse Museum, The National Maritime Museum, Star City Casino, and the fantastic restaurants and bars that line Cockle Bay Wharf. The list is endless, one thing's for sure; you will never be bored in Darling Harbour!
North Shore
Sydney's North shore includes great suburbs for shopping (Neutral Bay, Mosman, Chatswood Chase & North Sydney). The North Shore suburbs are renowned for being wonderful places to dine and have a drink. You can find a great variety of different cuisines at Crows Nest. For wonderful boutique stores and great Saturday markets visit Kirribilli and if you're after fantastic expansive Sydney Harbour views, a trip down to Bradley's head is a must.
Northern Beaches
There are far too many beautiful Sydney Northern beaches of sun, surf & sand, to list here but the main ones worth exploring are Manly (you can spend days here shopping, pub and bar hopping and eating out at great establishments). Palm Beach and Whale Beach, located at the very north of the peninsula and Newport, Avalon, Freshwater and Curl Curl all have a great atmosphere, the hardest part will be deciding where to spend your day.
